Who is Grace van Dien? Stranger Things actress turns down roles after alleged sexual harassment

Actress Grace van Dien has said she has been turning down acting roles in favour of streaming after a number of bad experiences.

The Stranger Things star alleged that a producer asked her to sleep with him and another woman.

As a result, she wants to focus more on streaming on Twitch, where she has hundreds of thousands of followers.

What did Grace van Dien say?

Van Dien revealed why she has been “turning down acting projects and deciding to stream more” in a Twitch stream on Tuesday.

The actress said: “But the fact of the matter is the last few projects I’ve worked on I didn’t have the best experiences. One of the last movies I did, one of the producers asked me to … Like he hired a girl he was sleeping with and then he had her ask me to have a threesome with them. So like … That’s my boss.”

Who is Grace van Dien?

Grace van Dien, 26, is an actress from Los Angeles. TV fans will recognise her as Chrissy in season four of Netflix’s Stranger Things.

Speaking about the response to her role in the hit TV series, van Dien told Behind the Blinds: “It’s been a whirlwind. But also very refreshing because for months prior to the release, I was just sitting idly by waiting for something to happen. And then suddenly since the release, it’s been totally nonstop. It was a real shift and the reaction to Chrissy and her storyline was totally unexpected.”

Van Dien is also known for playing Brooke Osmond in Greenhouse Academy (2017), Katie Campbell in The Village (2019) and Sharon Tate in Charlie Says (2018).

Aside from acting, van Dien is a popular streamer, boasting nearly 300,000 followers on Twitch. She also has 1.5 million followers on Instagram.

She has also worked as a model, telling VAR Magazine: “Modelling is movement whilst acting is emotional and becoming somebody else.”

She was introduced to acting by her father, Casper van Dien, an actor known for his roles in Starship Troopers (1997), Sleepy Hollow (1999) and Alita: Battle Angel (2019).

She told Behind the Blinds what it was like working in the same industry as her father, and the advice he gave her: “He ingrained in me very young to always stick up for myself.

“Obviously, there are disadvantages to being a woman in any industry and, starting out in this one, I definitely saw glimpses of that. But I’m pretty strong-willed and put my foot down quite easily. It’s been nice to have him as my backup voice whenever I need it and it has influenced me to do that for friends who don’t have the same wager as I do, having someone in your family in the industry.”

Her acting lineage goes back generations: her maternal great-grandfather is Robert Mitchum, a Hollywood star in the 1940s and 1950s.

Aside from Stranger Things, last year van Dien appeared in Scream Park, Roost, V for Vengeance, Julius Caesar Live and The Fix. Her upcoming projects include Silver Star, Aaah! Roach! and Alaska.
