The 150th Open Championship gets under way on the Old Course at St Andrews on Thursday.

Golf’s biggest names will descend on the sport’s spiritual home for the final major of the 2022 season.

Avid golf fans and casual viewers alike, will be hoping to make a bit of extra cash out out the tournament.

Tiger Woods will be aiming to make it three Open victories at St Andrews. The 46-year-old, who suffered severe leg injuries in a car accident in February last year, withdrew from the US PGA after a third round of 79 and missed the US Open to ensure he could play at St Andrews, where he practiced extensively for four days and dismissed rumours he was planning on retiring.

Meanwhile Rory McIlroy will be hoping to turn top 10 finished into a long overdue win after an ankle injury prevented him defending his Open title in 2015 at St Andrews.

But who are the favourites according to the bookies?

According to bookmakers, Rory McIlroy is favourite to get his hands on the Claret Jug.

How to watch the Open Championship

Sky Sports Golf will be covering the Open throughout the tournament.

Its coverage starts at 6:30 am on the opening two days, moving to 8 am over the weekend.

The BBC will also air a podcast series during the Open Championship.

BBC Radio 5 Live will give full coverage of the 150th Open in its series called All About: The Open.

It will be hosted by BBC golf correspondent Iain Carter and commentator Katherine Downes.

When is the 150th Open Championship? 2022 Date and start time

The 150th Open Championship will be held from Thursday, July 14 to Sunday, July 17 2022.

The contest is taking place at the Old Course in St Andrews, Scotland.

Play starts at 6:45 am on the opening two days and then at 8 am over the weekend.
