Who is Gigi Salmon? Sports broadcaster presenting at Wimbledon

The Wimbledon Championships’ 2023 instalment will kick off on Monday, July 3, and conclude on Sunday, July 16.

Those who are a fan of the tournament famous for being the oldest and most prestigious tennis tournament in the world will be no strangers to sports presenter Gigi Salmon.

A regular at the commentary box, the journalist has had an exciting career covering sports thus far.

If you have been wanting to get to know Gigi Salmon better, here is everything we know about her career and social media presence.

Who is Gigi Salmon?

Gigi Salmon started her career as a sports presenter at Radio Oxygen back in September 1997. After spending a couple of years there, the journalist joined talkSPORT as a sports newsreader and reporter.

The Oxford Brookes University graduate then joined Chelsea Football Club, presenting on Chelsea TV.

Shortly after that, Salmon started commentation for Radio Wimbledon under the All England Lawn Tennis Club.

Her Live@Wimbledon commentating started in January 2012 and has continued ever since.

Meanwhile, she works as a freelance sports broadcaster for a number of companies including Sky Sports and BBC Sport, and co-hosts the TENNISH podcast alongside Naomi Cavaday, a former British professional tennis player.

This year, she will be a part of the BBC Sport team, covering all the exciting highlights of Wimbledon.

Her management company, Decibel, cites her as “one of the world’s leading female tennis commentators”, shining a light on her work for the Olympic Broadcast Services at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games and the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games, as well as the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio.

Salmon, a fluent French speaker, isn’t incredibly active on Instagram, but she occasionally shares some behind-the-scenes photos with her 2,253 followers — and on Twitter, where she has more than 72,000 followers.
