Who is Florian Bluchel? Arsenal's new transfer guru brought to unearth the next Erling Haaland

Arsenal had an extremely busy summer transfer window, spending more than any other Premier League outfit.

Technical director Edu splashed over £140million to bring Aaron Ramsdale, Benjamin White, Nuno Tvaraes, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Martin Odegaard to the Emirates Stadium.

However, the north Londoners will be looking to build on this and continue to build for the future under head coach Mikel Arteta, with some reports suggesting that they will look to make one or two major signings per transfer window.

Now, the Gunners have added to their scouting network, bringing in Florian Bluchel from Bayern Munich, football.london understands.

With that being said, who exactly is Bluchel and what will he bring to the club ahead of the January transfer window?

Who is Florian Bluchel?

Aged 37, Bluchel is a revered scout born in Bayreuth, Germany.

He is a former wrestler and represented his country in continental junior competitions during his teenage years.

However, it is his scouting ability that attracted the Gunners, having spent over ten years with reigning Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich as a video analyst and head of technical scouting.

Why did Arsenal want him?

The Gunners have previously attempted to tap into the Bundesliga market, bringing former Borussia Dortmund chief Sven Mislintat to the club back in 2017.

However, Mislintat eventually fell out with some higher ups at the Emirates before departing less than 18 months later.

'Diamond eyes' was credited with signing the likes of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Sokratis - targetting an older demographic that the age group Bluchel is likely to scout.

Bluchel's role in north London will be as the club's International First Team Scout for Germany, where he will combine traditional scouting methods with video analysis and next-gen player profiling, as football.london's Chris Wheatley reports.

The Bundesliga has been a hotspot for young talnets to develop in recent times, with the likes of Erling Haaland, Jude Bellingham and Jamal Musiala all currently enjoying their time in the league and bringing in Bluchel could help Arsenal unearth the next hidden gem from the German top-flight.

During his time as Bayern's head of technical scouting, the Bavaria-based club signed the likes of Alphonso Davies, Leon Goretzka and former Arsenal winger Serge Gnabry - an impressive résumé indeed.
