Thousands of Irish households will be receiving a Fuel Allowance boost in a few week’s time after the government announced a new package of supports amid the rising cost of living in Ireland.
Homeowners have been faced with price hikes in recent months - which are due to continue - and many have been struggling to keep their homes warm as a result.
There are reportedly around 390,000 people in Ireland availing of the Fuel Allowance scheme which is aimed at helping with the price of heating your home during the winter months.
The 2021-2022 Fuel Allowance season started on Monday, September 27, 2021, and is expected to run for 28 weeks.
It’s understood that no one on this form of social welfare will be excluded from the incoming lump sum of €125 as part of new Government’s new measures.
Therefore, all those currently in receipt of it can expect the payment boost in early March, according to Public Expenditure Michael McGrath.
As well as this, every Irish household will be given €200 off their electricity bill in April.
Mr McGrath said: "The additional expenditure measures we are announcing today come to a total of €290 million and will make a positive impact on the incomes of all households in our country.
"The centre piece is a cut in the electricity bill of every household of €200 including VAT.
"This will be accompanied by an additional exceptional payment of €125 to households in receipt of the fuel allowance.
"The fuel allowance payment will be made in March, with the credit of €200 including VAT for electricity being applied to electricity accounts in April."
