Who is DI Ray actress Parminder Nagra and what other films and TV shows has she been in?

A new cold cast drama, DI Ray is coming to ITV this week. The first episode of the drama airs on Monday, May 2, at 9 pm.

The four-part ITV drama follows DI Rachita Ray, who is played by Parminder Nagra. Rachita has just been promoted in her position at work and is asked to join a murder investigation.

However, shortly after her promotion to DI, Rachita Ray discovers that on her first day the case she has been assigned is a culturally specific homicide. This raises her suspicions that she is a 'token appointment'.

DI Ray is written by Line of Duty actor Maya Sondhi and executive produced by that show’s creator Jed Mercurio. DI Ray will air nightly this week. Parminder Nagra is an established actress who has acted in several TV dramas and films prior to landing this new role in DI Ray.

Who is DI Ray actress Parminder Nagra?

Parminder Nagra is a British actress with Indian Punjabi and Sikh heritage. Nagra was born in Leicester on October 5, 1975.

The actor is the oldest of four children, with two brothers and one sister. Parminder left Leicester for London and landed her first theatrical job in 1994 when she was cast as the princess in the pantomime Sleeping Beauty at the Theatre Royal Stratford East.

She then went on to work with small Indian theatre companies such as Tara Arts and Tamasha. Through doing these roles, she gained radio and television appearances which would then go on to define her career thereafter.

What other films and TV shows has Parminder Nagra been in?

Parminder Nagra is known for her role as Jess Bhamra in Bend it Like Beckham (2002). Nagra has also performed in Dr Neela Rasgotra in the medical drama series ER (from 2003- 2009).

Parminder’s other acting projects include her starring role of Meera Malik in season one of the NBC crime drama series The Blacklist. She also bagged a recurring role in the ABC/Marvel Television series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as Ellen Nadeer.
