Who is delivering NI group changes paths to help fundraise for local charities

A Facebook group set up during lockdown to find food deliveries for people in isolation has turned to a fundraising force to raise money for a local charity.

The Who is delivering NI Facebook group has an Instagram page and an interactive online map so food businesses that deliver to the doorstep throughout Northern Ireland could be found in one place.

With 23,000 members on Facebook, 3,500 followers on Instagram and 751 businesses listed on the map – including hundreds of local Centra and Supervalu stores the group  has helped people find businesses that deliver to their doorstep and helped businesses find customers.  The admins wondered if they could use the power of the collective to help others?

As local charities are struggling this summer the admins  invited the businesses to donate prizes to put together the ‘Ultimate Food Delivery Fundraiser’ prize package in aid of Action Cancer and they were not disappointed.

Lucy McCusker from Action Cancer said: “Action Cancer is Northern Ireland’s leading local cancer charity. Unfortunately cancer has not gone away and so our services are needed more now than ever before.”

42 businesses have donated fantastic prizes – most delivering throughout Belfast, out to Bangor, Lisburn and Newtownabbey with the option of the winner picking up their prize if they live outside those areas.

The prize package is a food lovers dream!  The prizes can be selected to be delivered on dates that suit the winner so they’ll be able to be feasting for weeks!

“We’re delighted Dale Farm, Supervalu and Centra have all donated vouchers for the winner to spend as at the start of lockdown it was a huge relief as we got the information from these businesses so people could book a local milk man for regular deliveries and get their essentials dropped to their doorstep from their local grocery store.  It has been really interesting to see the trends change over the weeks on the group and with the searches on the app – it was like a monitor of the mood of the nation and some of the key players have donated generous prizes.

The fundraiser has been listed in Action Cancer’s Facebook page – which means every penny donated goes straight to the charity without the fees associated with other online sites like Just Giving.

Each £10 donation to the fundraiser buys the donator a virtual raffle ticket and all donations are being monitored and noted by our admins.

The prize fund is over £1700 so the group are hoping to raise £5000 for Action Cancer. You can donate here and find out Who's Delivering NI here.
