Who is Delfine Persoon? Everything you need to know about Katie Taylor's next opponent

Katie Taylor has officially got her shot at becoming the biggest star in women's boxing when she takes on Delfine Persoon on June 1st.

The Joshua v Miller undercard bout will be the biggest fight in women's boxing history as Taylor vies to add Persoon's WBC belt to her current WBA, WBO and IBF haul.

And it's expected to be the Bray native's greatest test yet as she takes on the last of the world champions having fell WBA champ Enahi Esther Sanchez, IBF champ Victoria Noelia Bustos and recently stopping Rose Volante to take home the WBO belt.

Speaking ahead of the fight, Persoon said: "This is a very unique opportunity for me and I’m thankful we’ve got the fight made.

“I did not have the opportunity to participate in the Olympic Games and now I get the chance to compete with the Olympic champion in Katie Taylor.

“I expect this will be a very tough and honest fight, and that the best boxer may win this title fight – and I expect that to be me.”

Katie Taylor v Delfine Persoon confirmed for Anthony Joshua v Jarrell Miller undercard

Here's everything you need to know about Delfine Persoon:

Where is she from and how old is she?

She is from Gits, Belgium and turned 34 in January of this year - making her two years older than Taylor.

What is her record?

In 44 professional fights, Persoon has won 43 of those fights and lost just one - with 18 of those coming by knockout, 22 by decision and 3 by disqualification.

What title does she hold?

She is the current WBC lightweight world champion having defeated Erica Farias in April 2014 to win the belt.

Her Career

A top amateur in Belgium and national champion in 2009, she turned professional that year. In October 2010, she defeated Zelda Tekin to go 9-0 via 2nd round DQ. The pair fought again the next month and Persoon was defeated in what would be the only defeat of her career.

After that loss, Persoon hasn't looked back. She defeated Erica Farias in April 2014 to win the WBC world title and has also recorded big wins over Melissa St. Vil and Nicole Boss in the years since.

Interestingly, Persoon has fought almost exclusively in Belgium throughout her career - only travelling to Switzerland to defeat Boss in 2015.
