Before joining Discovery, Dee led Turner Broadcasting’s business in the UK and Ireland, which consisted of seven entertainment channels, including Cartoon Network, Boomerang and TCM.

She told RTÉ News at the time that although it was a tough professional decision to leave Discovery, the personal decision to return to Ireland and lead its biggest broadcaster, RTÉ, is an opportunity of a lifetime.

The state broadcaster said she was chosen “following a rigorous recruitment process overseen by its board”.

According to the RTÉ annual report for 2021, Forbes had a basic salary of €225,000 and also enjoyed a car allowance of €25,000 which along with pension contributions of €56,000 brought the overall package to €306,000.
