Who is Carlos Acosta? Strictly semi-final performance for ballet star

It's crunch time on Strictly Come Dancing on Sunday night when we find out who has made next week's grand final.

This series of Strictly Come Dancing has come by faster than the quickest of quicksteps and this weekend it's semi-final time. Previously non-dancing South Shields comedian Chris Ramsey has surprised everyone, including himself, by still being in the competition.

It barely seems like a week has passed since this year's Strictly stars were introduced to their professional partners but now just four couples remain.

After a tense quarter final, which had added drama thanks to voting problems and Shirley being forced to use her casting vote , Alex & Neil danced their last dance in the BBC ballroom.

Just Chris & Karen, Kelvin & Oti, Karim & Amy and Emma & Anton remain in the contest and the battle for the Glitterball is on!

Before the final dance-off of the series on Sunday, viewers will be treated to performances from Niall Horan and Carlos Acosta.

Who is Carlos Acosta?

Born on June 2, 1973 in Havana, Carlos Yunior Acosta Quesada CBE is a Cuban ballet dancer. He has danced with many companies including the English National Ballet, National Ballet of Cuba, Houston Ballet and American Ballet Theatre. He was a permanent member of The Royal Ballet between 1998 and 2015.

In January, it was announced that Acosta would succeed David Bintley as artistic director of the Birmingham Royal Ballet starting in January 2020,
