Who is Bryan Gil? Profile on the 20-year-old Spanish wonderkid linked with Tottenham transfer

Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer business is well underway following the arrival of Fabio Paratici in north London.

football.london understands that Spurs are in advanced talks over a double deal for Atalanta duo Pierluigi Gollini and Cristian Romero.

Nuno Espirito Santo could also be welcoming a third arrival to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium soon though, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that the club are close to finalising a deal for Sevilla midfielder Bryan Gil.

It is suggested that current Tottenham wideman Erik Lamela is set to move to Spain, with the La Liga outfit also set to receive €25million (£21.6m), plus add-ons, in exchange.

Just what are Spurs set to earn with the arrival of Gil though? football.london takes a closer look.

Who is Bryan Gil?

Gil is a 20-year-old winger who was born in Barcelona. His family moved to Andalusia when he was a child, allowing him to join Sevilla’s youth academy following a spell with local side Barbate CF.

What has he done so far?

Despite his tender years, Gil has already achieved plenty in his career. He was granted a place in the Sevilla B Team for the 2017/18 season before making his breakthrough the following campaign.

He went on to make 13 appearances that season, netting his first senior goal for the club in a 5-0 win against Rayo Vallecano - in the process becoming the first player born in the 21st century to score in La Liga.

Gil made a further seven appearances the following campaign as Sevilla lifted the Europa League under Julen Lopetegui. He was then loaned out to Eibar for the 2020/21 campaign, scoring four goals and providing a further four assists in all competitions.

His form was good enough for Gil to earn his Spain debut in March and he has earned a further two caps since. He is included in his nation’s squad for the Tokyo Olympics.

Why would Spurs want him?

Gil’s huge potential would make him an attractive option for a number of clubs around Europe at the current time.

Lamela could be on his way out (LONDON, ENGLAND - MAY 19: Erik Lamela of Tottenham Hotspur acknowledges the fans following the Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on May 19, 2021 in London, England. Whilst having not yet sparkled consistently, Spurs would be able to steal a march on their rivals by securing his signature now.

Meanwhile, new boss Espirito Santo is capable of nurturing the best young talent around Europe having helped shaped the careers of Ruben Neves and Pedro Neto with Wolves, so there will be hope he can repeat that trick with Gil.

What has been said so far?

Hailed by Spanish outlet Marca as the ‘Little Cruyff’, Gil has earned plenty of plaudits in his homeland.

Spain manager Luis Enrique has revealed that he is a big fan. He said: “I like him a lot. From the first talk I have had with him, I see him as very mature and very calm.

“I am now going to discover him in terms of football.”
