Who is Bruno Guimaraes? The Brazilian Arsenal and Chelsea are chasing in January transfer window

The transfer window is open, but we are yet to see our London clubs make their first moves.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham have all been linked with a number of new signings, but all three have yet to make one as yet.

There is, of course, plenty of time, but who will be the first players the clubs sign this month?

If reports in Brazil are to be believed, both Arsenal and Chelsea could be chasing the same player.

Globo Esporte claim that the Gunners and the Blues are both interested in signing Bruno Guimaraes this month, having sent scouts to watch him in the Brazilian League.

So, who is Bruno Guimaraes, and what would he bring to Mikel Arteta or Frank Lampard's side?

Who is Bruno Guimaraes?

Guimaraes is a 22-year-old midfielder who plays for Brazilian side Athletico Paranaense.

The central midfielder was born in Rio de Janeiro and moved to his current club from Gremio Osasco Audax in May 2017.

He has one cap for Brazil's U23 team, playing 21 minutes of the team's 3-2 defeat against Japan back in October.

How has he performed this season?

Guimaraes has made 35 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring four goals and providing three assists.

He captained the team on one occasion, wearing the armband in a 1-0 loss against Palmeiras back in June.

The midfielder's most recent goal came in a 2-0 win against Cruzeiro back in July.

Who else are interested?

As well as Arsenal and Chelsea, Atletico Madrid have also been linked with the 22-year-old, with reports that both Arsenal and Chelsea have sent scouts to watch the midfielder.

Benfica are another side interested in the Brazilian, but are having similar financial issues and have just spent €20million on the signing of Julian Weigl and are unlikely to sign another midfielder in January.

What has the player said?

The player spoke about his future and a possible move away from his club back in September.

"The interest of other teams, I see that it’s normal when the person has been playing well," he said, as reported by the Mirror .

I leave that in the hands of my agents. I’m happy at Athletico and focused on the final."
