Now a Major champion after winning the 2023 Open at Royal Liverpool, Brian Harman has elevated his game to new levels over the past few years.
The left-hander has risen to World No.8 at his peak and added another PGA Tour title to his resume as well.
He has also made his Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup debut since then and is considered one of the biggest names on the PGA Tour.
And for much of his career, Harman has relied on just one man to carry his bag - that is Scott Tway.
Originally from Oklahoma City in the United States, Tway played college golf at Georgia Southern before beginning life as a caddie in the mid-1990s. Before Harman, he looped for Scott Verplank and Chris Kirk, among others.
Personally, the 6ft4in caddie has a significant background in the sport. His brother, Bob Tway famously won the 1986 PGA Championship with a hole-out bunker shot against Greg Norman. Meanwhile, Bob's son - and therefore Scott's nephew - Kevin won the 2018 Safeway Open and still competes on the PGA Tour and Korn Ferry Tour.
His uncle, Scott Tway says that his best ever victory came at the 1995 Heritage Classic, the first win while caddying for his older brother. The American is not just a big golf fan, he enjoys other sports like UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship), baseball and American football. Tway is a big Jacksonville Jaguars fan.
Although Tway has been Harman's caddie since roughly 2013, he wasn't actually on the bag for his maiden PGA Tour victory at the 2014 John Deere Classic.
During his first round, Harman called a medic over to tend to Tway who had been ill all night. Unfortunately, he couldn’t continue on and was replaced by a local high school softball and basketball coach, Jay Hatch.
Harman wound up shooting eight-under-par in that first round, but Hatch refused to take any credit for it: “Scott wasn’t looking good. He is tough as nails but I looked in his eyes and he didn’t look good. So I called a medic over.” said Harman.
Their close relationship was described as "magic" by Brian's mom, Nancy. Speaking to Golfweek in 2021, she said: "They are like magic together. I'm not sure what the chemistry is. Scott is very quiet and laid back, except when someone isn't standing still while Brian is taking a shot. He's very protective of Brian. They're great friends and work well together.
"I used to tell Brian I was worried when he would go to Malaysia and some of the other foreign countries. But he would say 'Mom, you don't have to worry. I've got Country with me; he's like my personal bodyguard.'"
In total, they have four PGA Tour victories together - none bigger than the 2023 Open Championship at Royal Liverpool - with the latest being a win at the 2025 Texas Open.
