Who is Brandon Austin? Everything you need to know about the youngster on Spurs' bench

Young goalkeeper Brandon Austin has had a month to remember despite Tottenham Hotspur's struggles.

The 20-year-old has been travelling regularly in recent weeks to first team matches as Tottenham's 20th man, the third goalkeeper ready to come in should there be illness or injury.

Despite having yet to make his debut for Tottenham, Austin then got the call-up from Aidy Boothroyd to link up with the England U21 squad this month, along with team-mate Oliver Skipp.

Although he did not get any pitch action for the national side, it was a big experience for the young Spurs stopper of how the England side work towards both a friendly and a competitive European qualifier.

Then on Saturday afternoon Austin was given the nod by Mauricio Pochettino ahead of fellow academy team-mate Alfie Whiteman to take his place on the bench for Tottenham's Premier League match against Watford, providing back-up to Paulo Gazzaniga.

Michel Vorm, who turns 36 this week, was brought back to the club following Hugo Lloris' elbow injury, but is not deemed to be match fit yet after months out of the game.

For Hemel Hempstead-born Austin it was a big moment for him, a culmination of his academy years which saw him represent the club at various levels having made the switch across for Chelsea.

Austin became the main keeper for Wayne Burnett's development squad U23s last season in the Premier League 2 and the U19s in the UEFA Youth League.

The young keeper has been taken on a number of pre-season tours with the first team in previous summers.

He also holds dual nationality and appeared for the USA U18s before being called up for England U19s and now U21s.

Austin could well return to being Spurs' third choice keeper once Vorm is sharp and ready for the Premier League again but for now he's going to be soaking up the experience of a first team match day squad.
