Who is Ben Warner? The adviser who told Boris Johnson the NHS would be 'smashed in weeks if not days'

Dominic Cummings has claimed the government's delay in lockdown and lack of action plan was similar to the disaster film Independence Day.

Boris Johnson's former special adviser said his data expert colleague Ben Warner was being compared to Jeff Goldblum's scientist in the film whose warnings were ignored.

Warner warned the Prime Minister in March last year the NHS would be "smashed" in days because SAGE had got it "completely wrong" having predicted the tipping point would be June.

Cummings said: "It was like a scene from Independence Day with J eff Goldblum saying the aliens are here and your whole plan is broken and you need a new plan.

"With Ben Warner in the Jeff Goldblum role.

"He took the Prime Minister through all the graphs, and through the NHS graphs, and showed him that the system is thinking this is all weeks and weeks and away... but this is all completely wrong... The NHS is going to be smashed in weeks."

Cummings said it was a "huge failure" on his own part that he did not push harder for an earlier lockdown.

He said: "I bitterly regret that I didn't kind of hit the emergency panic button earlier than I did.

"I think, in retrospect, there's no doubt that I was wrong not to."

He said he was "incredibly frightened" to say the official plan was wrong in case he himself was wrong.

So, here's what we know about the top adviser:

Who is Ben Warner?

Dominic Cummings recruited Ben Warner in late 2019 after he ran the Conservative Party's general election campaign in that same year.

Previously to working with the Tories on the election he worked alongside Cummings on the Vote Leave campaign for the European Union referendum.

His brother is March Warner who runs an AI company called Faculty.

He used to work with his brother at the firm before getting into politics.
