Who is Axel Disasi? The Ligue 1 defender linked with £13m Arsenal transfer

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is likely to make additions to his Gunners squad in the upcoming transfer window, despite the uncertainty amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Football in England has been suspended since the start of last month, with it still unknown when the Premier League will return, although some reports have suggested that June 8 is being set as a target date to restart.

The lack of football means that players are using the extra time to try and maintain their fitness, while Arsenal chiefs could be looking to gain an advantage in the race for players ahead of the window opening, whenever that may be.

Defence is likely to be on Arteta’s list to strengthen this summer and one of the names linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium is Axel Disasi.

Goal reports that Arsenal have made contact with Reims over a £13 million move for the defender, who looks set to move away from the French club this season.

But who is Disasi, and what will he bring to the Emirates Stadium?

Take a look below to find out.

Who is Axel Disasi?

Disasi is a 22-year-old defender who plays his football at French club Reims. He started his career at Ligue 2 club Paris FC before moving to Reims in 2016.

He was part of the team who won promotion to the top division in France in 2017/18 and has slowly broken into the first team of the club over the past four seasons.

Disasi has three caps for the France U20 team, making his debut in 2017.

How has he performed this season?

The youngster has impressed in Ligue 1 during the 2019/20 season, playing in 27 league games, scoring his only goal of the campaign in a 1-1 draw against FC Metz.

He is part of a Reims squad flying high in Ligue 1 as they push for European football next season.

How much will he cost?

Disasi has just one year remaining on his contract, with it reported that he is unlikely to sign a new deal at the club.

This means that the Ligue 1 side are likely to cash in this summer instead of risking losing the player for nothing next year.

Goal report that Reims are asking for around £13 million for the defender, but Arsenal are not the only team interested, with West Ham, Southampton and Monaco also being linked with the 22-year-old.
