Who is Anatomy of a Scandal author Sarah Vaughan and what other books has she published?

David E Kelley, the brains behind Big Little Lies, has adapted Sarah Vaughan’s bestselling book Anatomy of a Scandal for Netflix as his latest project. The series is now available to watch on Netflix and features an all-star cast including Sienna Miller, Naomi Scott, Rupert Friend and Michelle Dockery.

It follows a charming Tory Cabinet minister and Old Etonian (Friend) who is married to his university sweetheart Sophie (Miller). His what seemed perfect life is ruined when he is accused of rape by a parliamentary aide (Scott) with whom he had been having an affair.

The series is based on the fictional book of the same name by Vaughan. Although the book is fictional, Vaughan was inspired by two real British news scandals. But who is Vaughan and what other books has she published? Here’s everything you need to know.

Who is Anatomy of a Scandal author Sarah Vaughan?

Vaughan is a 50-year-old author and journalist from Devon. She graduated with an English degree at Oxford University and went on to become a journalist. After completing training at the Press Association, she spent 11 years at the Guardian as a news reporter and political correspondent before leaving to freelance and write fictional books.

She is known for her psychological thrillers which deal with themes of power and privilege, as well as pressures placed on women. Anatomy of a Scandal is her third novel.

What other books has Sarah Vaughan published?

Vaughan’s first novel The art of baking blind came out in 2014. The book is about the participants in a baking competition, and was translated into six languages. It was followed two years later by The farm at the edge of the world (2016), which was especially successful in France.

But it was with her third novel Anatomy of a Scandal (2018) where she became known to a wider audience. The novel received positive reviews, and was in the Sunday Times bestseller list for ten weeks.

Vaughan's next book, Little Disasters (2020), has been described as 'a novel about motherhood and madness' and deals with child abuse, postnatal anxiety and maternal OCD.

Her fifth and most recent book, Reputation, was published in March 2022. It deals with the threats commonly received by women in public life, and social media harassment of young women.
