Who is Alfie Devine? The Tottenham wonderkid Jose Mourinho has named on the bench vs Marine

Jose Mourinho has named a strong Tottenham squad for this afternoon's FA Cup third round tie against Marine.

Although 161 places separate the sides in the football ladder, the Spurs boss has elected against playing a number of his youngsters and instead decided on bringing the vast majority of his first-team squad.

Mourinho did confirm in his pre-match press conference on Friday, however, that Jack Clarke and Harvey White would be included in his matchday 20.

The boss also revealed that an U18 player would be named as part of the travelling party to Crosby, with Alfie Devine the lucky one to get the nod.

Marine v Tottenham: FA Cup third-round preview

But who is the talented midfielder? football.london takes a look.

Making the switch to north London back in July, the highly-rated midfielder is believed to have joined for a fee of £300,000 after Spurs made their move with Wigan Athletic going into administration.

The 16-year-old had actually been training with the Wigan first team prior to his exit and had only just committed his long-term future to the club after penning a deal in June.

Part of the Latics side that reached the quarter-finals of the FA Youth Cup last season, seeing off Spurs along the way, the ex-Liverpool academy player has been tipped as one for the future.

Linking up with the U18s after his switch to north London, Devine quite clearly caught the eye in his first few weeks at the club after Mourinho called him up for Spurs' friendly against Ipswich Town and subsequently handed him some pitch time.

Returning to the U18s following his run out against the Tractor Boys, Devine appeared in seven games for the club's youngsters before moving up to play for the development squad.

Scoring on his first appearance against Derby County, the midfielder was then in the headlines prior to Christmas after a tackle on Danny Drinkwater in a game against Chelsea's U23s sparked a melee.

A few days later and Devine stepped up once again as he trained alongside the rest of the first-team squad at Hotspur Way.

Clearly a player with a very bright future in the game, the ex-Wigan man will have his fingers crossed that his senior bow comes on Sunday evening in the FA Cup third round clash against Marine.

Expect to hear plenty more about Devine at Tottenham over the coming years.
