Who is Adam Price, the leader of Plaid Cymru?

Adam Price was elected as leader of Plaid Cymru in 2018, taking over from Leanne Wood.

He's also the Welsh Assembly Member for Carmarthen East and Dinefwr.

Mr Price has also been the MP for the same constituency, elected as MP in 2001 and standing down in 2010.

The son of a miner, Mr Price was born near Ammanford in 1968 and went to Amman Valley Comprehensive School, Carmarthenshire.

He studied at Cardiff University, gaining a BA in European Community Studies in 1991. He also studied at Saarland University in Saarbrucken, Germany, and speaks Welsh and German.

After graduating, Mr Price worked as a research associate at the Cardiff University's department of City and Regional Planning.  From 1998, he was the managing director of the Newidiem Economic Development Consultancy.

In his time in the Commons he won headlines by exposing the "Mittalgate" affair in 2002, revealing a letter of support the Prime Minister had written for Labour donor Lakshmi Mittal, the Indian steel billionaire, to help him buy steel industry assets in Romania.

Mr Price tried to impeach Tony Blair - in a bid which failed - and was ejected from the Commons chamber for accusing the Prime Minister of having "misled" Parliament and then refusing to withdraw his comment.

From September 2010 he attended Harvard University, studying for a Master's in Public Administration.

He returned to Wales two years later and helped form financial software firm Ideoba in Bridgend.

The company collapsed and subsequently went bankrupt.  He then worked for the innovation charity Nesta.

He stood for Plaid Cymru in the 2016 Assembly elections and in 2018 stood against Leanne Wood for the party leadership, a contest he won.

It was the first time Ms Wood had been challenged in six years.

Mr Price is a vocal spokesman for Welsh independence.

Mr Price has a partner and child, and features on the WalesOnline Pinc List of influential Welsh LGBT+ figures.
