The Arizona Cardinals’ second pick in the 2020 draft is in the third round, as they traded away their second-round pick to the Houston Texans in the deal to acquire receiver DeAndre Hopkins. They have the 72nd overall pick in the draft, the eighth pick in the third round.
What sort of player can the Cardinals expect to get with that pick?
Let’s look at the last 10 players selected at pick No. 72.
2019: LB Germaine Pratt, Bengals

Pratt was a solid contributor as a rookie for the Bengals. He played in all 16 games and started nine of them. He finished the year with 76 total tackles.
2018: DT Nathan Shepherd, Jets

Shepherd played in all 16 games for the Jets as a rookie, even starting five games. He only played in nine games in 2019 because of, in part, a PED suspension. He had two sacks and nine tackles last season.
2017: WR Taywan Taylor, Titans

Taylor played two seasons for the Titans, catching a combined 53 passes for 697 yards and two touchdowns. He was traded to the Browns in 2019 for a 2020 seventh-round pick. He played in three games for the Browns and didn’t catch a pass, but returned three kicks.
2016: DL Jonathan Bullard, Bears

Bullard is now on the Cardinals. He played 46 games in three seasons for the Bears as a rotational defensive lineman but didn’t produce much. He had 62 total tackles and two sacks in three seasons.
He was cut before the 2019 season and claimed off waivers by the Cardinals. He played in nine games before an injury ended his season and had 22 tackles and a career-high 1.5 sacks.
He re-signed with the Cardinals on a one-year deal.
2015: OL Jamon Brown, Rams

Brown has bounced around a bit. He played three and a half seasons for the Rams, mostly as a starter at guard. He was claimed off waivers by the Giants in 2018 and started all eight games left in the season for them and then signed a three-year deal with the Atlanta Falcons. He played in 10 games, starting nine of them.
2014: DL Scott Crichton, Vikings

Crichton last three seasons with the Vikings but played only two. He appeared in 21 games and had 10 total tackles. He spent 2016 on injured reserve, was cut in the 2017 offseason, claimed by the Buffalo Bills and cut days later.
2013: OL Brian Winters, Jets

Winters has been a starter for the Jets pretty much his entire career and is still with them. He has started 79 games in seven seasons. Injuries have plagued him, but he continues to play well.
2012: DE Olivier Vernon, Dolphins

Vernon is still in the league with the Cleveland Browns. He played five years for the Dolphins and had 29 sacks. He signed a huge five-year contract worth $85 million in 2016 with the New York Giants and then was traded in 2019 to the Browns. He has 54.5 career sacks.
2011: LB Martez Wilson, Saints

Wilson lasted three seasons in the NFL. He spent two full seasons with the Saints and four games of a third before being cut in 2013. He spent the rest of that season between the Oakland Raiders and Dallas Cowboys. In his career, he had 33 tackles and five sacks.
2010: DE Alex Carrington, Bills

Carrington played six seasons in the NFL. He spent his first four years with the Bills, one season with the Rams and his final season back in Buffalo. He played in 59 games and had 61 tackles and four career sacks.
