Who died on Line of Duty? 'Tragic events' warning proves to be correct after shoot out fatality

After a week of being left on tenterhooks, Line of Duty viewers finally found out the outcome of last weekend's shoot out cliffhanger.

A ' tragic events' warning ahead of Sunday's episode had everyone fearing the worst but the resulting fatality had millions breathing a sigh of relief as *SPOILER ALERT* it was the ever shady Ryan Pilkington who lost his life as a result of two shot wounds an not fan favourite Kate Fleming.

AC-12 rushed to the scene of the shooting and Kate and already under suspicion DCI Jo Davidson were nowhere to be seen, leading to a manhunt for their whereabouts, with both women tracked down and arrested.

What could have quite been the most gripping 10 minutes of TV in a long time, had viewers flocking to Twitter, to express all manner of emotions, from joy to Kate not being dead to total confusion as to who shot Ryan.

One posted: "Anyone else stop breathing worrying they’d do Kate in?" and, equally on edge, another tweeted: "Thank F**k! Kate lives".

A third reacted: "Kate lives bye bye Ryan" but others were, firstly fuming at Kate being arrested, accusing Jo of 'doing her dirty' and secondly, at a loss to work out who shot Ryan.

Totally confused, one fan took to Twitter to write: "Who shot Ryan? Am I being really thick?" and a second tweeted: "So who shot Ryan?" with another viewer replying with the theory that Ryan's own gun backfired on him, rather than someone firing bullets at him.

Other Line of Duty enthusiasts were left reeling that Sunday's episode wasn't the last in the series as they wrongly assumed.

Series 6 is the BBC drama's longest to date, with its seventh and final episode airing on Sunday, May 2.
