It’s the doldrums of summer, one in which we all hope to see a college football season on time. It seems like Ohio State football is still a long way off, but if everything is cleared and approved through the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ll be seeing scarlet and gray-clad football warriors coming to a television screen or device near you in less than two and a half months.
So yeah, the excitement is building, especially in 2020 when it seems like the longest, shortest year anyone can remember. I mean, what level of Jumanji are we on at this point?
ESPN has been walking through a series of opinion pieces leading up to the college football season, and the latest is a look at the most exciting player on their preseason top-25 rankings.
And, you can probably guess who the worldwide leader selected from Ohio State, but we’ll tell you anyway. In a shocking development, it’s quarterback Justin Fields.
So what does Tom VanHaaren say about the Buckeye signal-caller?
Next … Why Fields is the most exciting player for Ohio State
Justin Fields – ESPN’s Most exciting player for Ohio State

What ESPN’s VanHaaren says
“The Buckeyes had 10 players selected in the NFL draft this year, which means the team is losing a lot of talent. Quarterback Fields is returning, however, and is entering his second season in coach Ryan Day’s system. Fields threw for 3,273 yards, 41 touchdowns and three interceptions. Receiver Garrett Wilson could find himself in this discussion, but Fields will be the one getting him the ball. There was no adjustment period for Fields and Day. If they had that much success in their first season together, the sky is the limit for this upcoming season.”
This is obviously an easy pick. What is more interesting to me is if Fields can improve upon his otherworldly performance in year one, and if so, how much better can he be?
