Who could the Republic of Ireland get in the Euro 2020 draw? Potential opponents, venues and dates if Mick McCarthy's side reach the finals

Republic of Ireland's Euro 2020 final dreams remain up in the air but today they will find out their group opponents if they emerge triumphant from the play-offs.

A final day draw with Denmark at the Aviva saw Mick McCarthy's side come up agonisingly close to qualifying automatically for the finals.

All is not lost though and if they are to record away wins over Slovakia on March 26 next year, followed by another in a away day in Northern Ireland or Bosnia on March 31, then we are on our way.

And we wouldn't have to go very far either with two of three group matches set to take place at the Aviva.

Who could get drawn in the Republic of Ireland's group?

Ireland would be in Group E with Spain if they qualify for Euro 2020 (Getty Images)

We already know that fellow host nation Spain would be in our group. We would play them in Bilbao.

And today's draw will see our group completed with one of either France, Poland, Switzerland or Croatia.

And one country from Portugal, Turkey, Austria, Sweden and the Czech Republic.

Or better put....

Group E (Bilbao, Dublin)

Spain
France/Poland/Switzerland/Croatia
Portugal/Turkey/Austria/Sweden/Czech Republic
Winner play-off path B ( Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovakia, Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland)

Where would Ireland's group matches be played?

Ireland manager Mick McCarthy (PA)

We would play two of our group matches at the Aviva and one against Spain in Bilbao.

What are the other group possibilities?

(those in bold have been confirmed)

Group A (hosts: Rome, Baku)

Italy
France/Poland/Switzerland/Croatia
Portugal/Turkey/Austria/Sweden/Czech Republic
Finland/Wales

Group B (hosts Saint Petersburg, Copenhagen)

Belgium
Russia
Denmark
Finland/Wales

Group C (Amsterdam, Bucharest)

Ukraine
Netherlands
Portugal/Turkey/Austria/Sweden/Czech Republic
Winner play-off path A or D*

Group D (London, Glasgow)

England
France/Poland/Switzerland/Croatia
Portugal/Turkey/Austria/Sweden/Czech Republic
Winner play-off path C

Group F (Munich, Budapest)

Germany
France/Poland/Switzerland/Croatia
Portugal/Turkey/Austria/Sweden/Czech Republic
Winner play-off path A or D*

* The Path for the team from Pot 4 will be determined as follows:

  • If Iceland, Bulgaria or Hungary win Path A then they go in Group F; the winner of Path D complete Group C.
  • If Romania win Path A then they go in Group C; the winner of Path D complete Group F.

Who could be playing at the Aviva if Ireland don't qualify?

England could play a last 16 match at the Aviva (Getty Images)

The winner of play-off Path B will be included in Group E, regardless of it being Ireland or not.

So, If we don't make the finals, it will be one of Slovakia, Bosnia or Northern Ireland playing two of their group fixtures at the Aviva Stadium.

There is also going to be a last 16 match in Dublin on June 30, but this definitely won't involve the Republic of Ireland.

Instead it will pit together the winners of Group D and the runners-up in Group F, which could possibly mean a clash between England and Germany.

When is the draw?

The draw for the Euro 2020 finals is Saturday November 30 at 5pm (Irish time).

How can I watch the draw?

The draw is being broadcast live on RTE 2 (4.45pm) and on BBC 2 (5pm).

You can also follow the action on the Irish Mirror Sport's live blog.

Where is the draw?

It is being held at the ROMEXPO in Bucharest, Romania.
