Who Chelsea play on the opening day of the 2020/21 Premier League after fixture 'leak'

The new Premier League season is almost upon us.

The interrupted 2019/20 campaign has not long finished, with European competition still ongoing in the Champions League and Europa League.

But with the coronavirus disrupting the 2019/20 campaign, it has not left long between seasons, with 2020/21 due to begin on September 12 - just four weeks away.

And that means a quick turnaround for the Premier League in terms of preparations for the new season.

Ahead of any campaign there is always much excitement and much of that ramps up when the full list of fixtures are released.

football.london understands that the fixture list will be out by the end of next week, with suggestions that Friday, August 21 could be the day for all football fans to look forward to.

Of course, it will be tinged somewhat this year, with no clues as yet as to when fans will be allowed back into stadiums following the coronavirus pandemic.

However, there is always anticipation ahead of a new season and fans will be keen to know who their teams will be playing first.

Has there already been an indication of that though?

The hugely popular fantasy football game on Fantasy Premier League has launched for the new season and they always tell you who each player will be playing next when you pick your squad.

But they may have 'leaked' the opening day's fixtures already, with some eagle-eyed fans suggesting their squad showed who the players would be playing next.

The ability to see that has now been removed, perhaps with someone at the Premier League noticing and changing the coding, but some supporters have already been talking about the opening day.

Chelsea supporters picked up on it, with their team, according the to FPL 'leak' due to face Southampton at Stamford Bridge on the opening weekend.

The Blues shared results with the Saints last season, winning 4-1 at St Mary's but losing 2-0 at the Bridge. That was, however, Saints' first win in nine Premier League games against Chelsea, so it could prove to be a good first fixture for Frank Lampard if it is confirmed.
