Andy Burnham is on course to become the next British prime minister after strengthening his position as the leading candidate to replace Sir Keir Starmer.
Following his landslide victory in the Makerfield by-election last month, where he secured 54.8 per cent of the vote, Burnham has consolidated support among Labour members and MPs.
He is now just one parliamentary nomination short of the 323 needed to make a rival leadership challenge mathematically impossible.
Attention has now turned to Westminster, where several London Labour MPs have already thrown their support behind Burnham.
