Who are the favourites to get the Newcastle United job if Steve Bruce leaves?

Newcastle United Steve Bruce is now the bookies' favourite to be the next manager sacked in the Premier League.

The pressure on the Magpies head coach has ramped up in recent weeks, and Monday night's defeat at Arsenal now means it is nine matches without a win in all competitions.

Bruce promised changes and demanded a reaction after his side became the first Premier League team to lose to Sheffield United this season.

However, it was another uninspiring performance and Mikel Arteta's side coasted to victory courtesy of goals from Bukayo Saka and a brace from Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang.

Bruce admitted his future on Tyneside was in the hands of others following the defeat, but insisted he will continue to deliver his best to arrest the Magpies slump into a relegation battle.

The head coach is now the favourite to become the second Premier League manager to leave this season following West Brom's sacking of Slaven Bilic in December last year.

Paddy Power has offered odds of 6/5 on Bruce's exit - ahead of Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder (21/10) and Chelsea manager Frank Lampard (7/2).

There are already a host of names linked with the Newcastle hotseat should Mike Ashley decide to pull the trigger. The likes of former Arsenal boss Unai Emery, Lucien Favre Luciano Spalletti are among the more unlikely candidates linked with the post.

However, there are a number of familiar names strongly tipped to succeed Bruce should he decide to walk, or if the club dispenses with his services.

Here are the leading contenders to become the next Magpies boss ( according to odds from Paddy Power ) should Bruce depart St James' Park:
