Who are Rory Campbell and Harry Newman? What we know about the men who handed Bury FC possible lifeline

Bury fans are facing an anxious wait to find out if a bid to save them from the brink at the last minute has been successful.

The Shakers were set to be expelled from the English Football League on Friday night for failing to prove the Gigg Lane outfit's financial viability.

But the EFL is considering extending Friday's expulsion deadline after being informed a deal had been struck to sell the embattled club.

Bury had seen their first six matches of the League One season postponed, whilst the English Football League set a two-week deadline for the club to resolve their financial issues.

Rory Campbell, formerly of West Ham, lodged a bid for the club, which is awaiting EFL ratification to be awarded an extension.

Henry Newman, who is the co-founder of data firm C&N Sporting Risk, is also believed to be behind the attempt to save Bury from expulsion.

So, who are the men behind the potential club-saving bid? Here's all we know.

Who is Rory Campbell?

Campbell is an Oxford graduate and well connected in football and has been working in the professional game as an analyst for a number of years, working with West Ham.

He is the son of former Labour Party spin doctor and lifelong Burnley fan Alastair Campbell.

He is also a keen long-distance runner, having won the Hampton Court Half Marathon in 2014, receiving a £500 sponsorship from Sir Alex Ferguson for his chosen charity - a cancer research charity in memory of late Labour Party strategist Philip Gould.

Who is Harry Newman and what is C&N Sporting Risk?

Newman, a former inter manager at Barnet, is the co-owner of C&N Sporting Risk, which Campbell helped to set up in 2016.

The company describe themselves as "experts in the creation and facilitation of product pricing through complex technical data analysis for a wide range of companies engaged with both football and other leading sports industries"

In an interview with the Independent, Campbell praised the Moneyball approach of Brentford owner Matthew Benham, which suggests something similar could be in store for Bury if Campbell and Newman take over.
