Who are Nottingham Forest's brightest young stars now Arvin Appiah has left?

Nottingham Forest youngster Arvin Appiah yesterday sealed a move to Spanish outfit UD Almeria as he became the latest promising Reds youngster to depart the club before showcasing his full potential.

The 18-year-old, who enjoyed a breakthrough season at the City Ground last term, was tipped for great things on Trentside and was reported to have been a player wanted by Manchester United.

But, tempted by an bid from elsewhere ahead of Europe's 5pm deadline, Appiah left the club on a permanent move.

In recent months, Brennan Johnson and Alex Mighten have been nipping at Appiah's heals as the young duo creep closer and closer towards the first team.

So with Appiah now gone, who are the next Garibaldi starlets to emerge from the production line at the Nigel Doughty Academy?

Brennan Johnson

If Reds fans did not know about Brennan Johnson before this summer, they certainly do now.

The exciting attacking midfielder is the son of ex-Forest striker David Johnson, the last man to hit 20-goals in a single season in Garibaldi, and made his first start in August's 3-0 win over Derby County.

He is jet-heeled and dangerous on the ball and Sabri Lamouchi has been impressed with his technical excellence during the Frenchman's early months at the City Ground.

Alex Mighten

If reports are to be believed, Manchester United were always keen on snatching Appiah from Forest's clutches - and the same is said to be true for Alex Mighten.

The 17-year-old was always a year below Appiah in his development, but the two have always been compared to each other for as long as they have both been in the academy system.

He is another forward with pace, trickery and intelligence and one who could quickly find himself in the first team frame.

Jayden Richardson

After penning his first pro deal back in April, Jayden Richardson has started his first year as a professional football out on loan with Exeter City.

The 18-year-old right-back was a regular for the Reds' Under-23s side and even made the bench for Forest on a number of occasions last season.

He has already turned out twice for the Grecians this season but has found himself second choice behind experience defender Pierce Sweeney.

Tyrese Fornah

19-year-old defensive midfielder Tyrese Fornah was a player adored by Martin O'Neill and he has continued to impress for the club's youth sides this term.

The rangy youngster plays in much the same style as Samba Sow and sits in front of the back four.

He is assured in possession, decent on the ball and strong.
