Who are analysts selecting at pick No. 29 for Chiefs following free agency?

Mock draft season is upon us.

In our last mock draft roundup sending offensive players to the Chiefs was gaining traction. This week the defensive picks outnumber the offensive selections. Analysts are no longer using uncertainty around Tyreek Hill to force a first round receiver to the Chiefs either.

A lot of things can still change, and there are plenty of opinions flying around about what the Chiefs’ needs are heading into the draft. Here’s a look at who analysts have sent to the Chiefs most recently:

Player & Position  School From
Greedy Williams CB LSU Mel Kiper Jr. – ESPN
Chauncey Gardner-Johnson S Florida Doug Farrar – Touchdown Wire
Jaylon Feguson DE LA Tech Peter Schrager – NFL.com
Clelin Ferrell DE Clemson Chris Roling – Bleacher Report
Garrett Bradbury C NC State Chad Reuter – NFL.com
Garrett Bradbury C NC State Matt Miller – Bleacher Report
Lonnie Johnson CB Kentucky Kalyn Kahler – Sports Illustrated
Josh Jacobs RB Alabama Luke Easterling – Draft Wire
Amani Oruwariye CB Penn State Trevor Sikkemma – The Draft Network

Center stage

The Chiefs lost perhaps their most reliable pass protector in free agency this year. Mitch Morse joined the Bills and is now the highest-paid center in the NFL. Morse hasn’t given up a sack since his rookie season, but he’s also missed 14 games since 2016.

Garrett Bradbury is regarded as the top center in the NFL draft. He’s super athletic and a road grader in the ground game. He should be one of the first interior offensive lineman taken in this draft class if not the first to go. Two separate analysts mocked him to the Chiefs, so there might be something to the teams interest in the first round.

The reach

I believe in getting your guy, but sometimes a reach is a reach. Lonnie Johnson in the first round for any team is a big reach. Sure the guy is tall, long, and oozing with athleticism. The problem is that he’s far from a sure thing at the next level.

At the same time the Chiefs have a unique insight into any player from the Kentucky program because their defensive coordinator is now the Chiefs’ new linebackers coach. So if there is a guy that is going to make it at the next level, well Matt House is going to know about it.

Running back?

A first-round running back just doesn’t seem like an option for the Chiefs right now. Josh Jacobs is a fantastic player and my top-rated running back in this class. The Chiefs simply have too many other needs and frankly Damien Williams has proven that he can carry the load. Don’t believe me, let the facts do the talking:
