Who are analysts selecting at pick No. 29 for Chiefs ahead of 2019 NFL draft?

Mock draft season is upon us.

In our last mock draft roundup, we saw an influx of offensive players including center Garrett Bradbury and running back Josh Jacobs. There was even a reach for a cornerback that the Chiefs’ new linebacker coach would be familiar with. This week draft analysts came back down to earth with their choices for the Chiefs.

A lot of things can still change for Kansas City with just under three weeks to go until draft day. Here’s a look at who analysts have chosen for the Chiefs most recently:

Player & Position  School From
Greedy Williams CB LSU Charles Davis -NFL.com
Brian Burns DE FSU Chris Trapasso – CBS Sports
Jeffrey Simmons DT Mississippi State Robert Klemko – Sports Illustrated
Greedy Williams CB LSU Mel Kiper Jr. – ESPN
Johnathan Abram S Mississippi State Todd McShay – ESPN
DeAndre Baker CB Georgia Dan Kadar – SB Nation
Jerry Tillery DT Notre Dame Will Brinson – CBS Sports
Jerry Tillery DT Notre Dame Cynthia Frelund – NFL.com
Marquise Brown WR Oklahoma Luke Easterling – Draft Wire
Darnell Savage S Maryland PFF Analysis Team

Injured defensive tackles

The new trend for the Chiefs is sending the team an injured defensive tackle.

Jeffrey Simmons would be considered a consensus top-10 talent if he were healthy and didn’t have off-field concerns. Can the Chiefs afford to draft a player that would be getting a redshirt season in recovery from an ACL injury? Can they afford to take a PR hit by taking another player with an incident of violence against a woman? I’m not so sure about this one.

Jerry Tillery just had surgery to repair a torn labrum. He won’t miss the season, but he’s in danger of missing the crucial part of the offseason where a rookie earns his wings in the NFL. That could impact where some teams value this player.

The trade up

Chris Trapasso had the Chiefs trading up with the Seahawks to draft Brian Burns in the first round. I would love to see the Chiefs make a move up to grab a pass rusher like Burns, but I’m also curious why a team like the Seahawks would pass on him. It’s an interesting thought, but I am not sure it’s a realistic option for Kansas City.

A draft duel?

Mel Kiper and Todd McShay unveiled a dueling mock draft. They both sought to address the defensive secondary for the Chiefs. It’s clear that they both view that area as a weakness of this team, at both the corner and safety position. So who would you rather have Chiefs Kingdom? Greedy Williams or Johnathan Abram?

A new safety emerges

PFF analytics have always been known for putting together some unique mock drafts. I haven’t seen anyone send Darnell Savage to a team in the first round other than PFF. He’s a solid safety, and he has helped himself through the pre-draft process, but will the NFL be that high on this player?
