There’s a very specific argument that refuses to die in Utah and in the world of MomTok, it’s the question of who actually started it all.
If you watched season one of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, you’ll remember this tension was already bubbling. Whitney Leavitt openly questioned how Taylor Frankie Paul’s behaviour reflected on the group, particularly as the “soft swinging” scandal exploded and dragged MomTok into global headlines. Love it or hate it, that saga is what pushed the group beyond niche TikTok fame and onto everyone’s For You Page, including, very much, mine here in Australia. I didn’t know I needed to try a dirty soda and a ketamine infusion till those gals landed on my feed.
So while MomTok was always a collective (it launched in 2020 with multiple creators), Taylor becoming the face of that chaos undeniably put it on the map in a way that’s hard to ignore.
Which brings us to 2026, where the same debate has resurfaced, just this time via Instagram bios.
Fans noticed Taylor recently updated hers to read: “Creator of Momtok + SLOMW 🩵 The Bachelorette 🌹Jesus is king🤍.” Subtle! Naturally, it didn’t take long for Whitney to respond in her own way.
Posting a Reel on July 8, Whitney lip-synced to a viral audio and wrote, “How it feels being ‘creator’ of momtok & SLOMW,” before adding in the caption, “It’s not founding mother…it’s founding motherSSSSS 😉.” So, yes, still very much a group project, in her eyes.

Their co-stars wasted no time jumping in. Mikayla Matthews commented, “You should put it in your bio 💅🏼💕,” while Mayci Neeley added, “Looks like you’re next on the unfollow list 👀.” Conner Leavitt also chimed in with, “Should I share my Mount Rushmore of Momtok 😜,” which, honestly, I would like to see.
All of this is unfolding as the show heads into season five with a noticeably different lineup. Whitney has confirmed this will be her final season, with both her and Conner stepping away after this chapter. At the same time, she’s already moving onto her next act, having launched a production company and teasing a potential new reality project — so she seems more than fine.
Taylor, meanwhile, is not returning for the upcoming season following a turbulent period that included a domestic assault investigation involving ex Dakota Mortensen. Authorities later confirmed they would not be pursuing charges. A source also told PEOPLE she had “checked into a facility upon the recommendation of her doctor” before leaving her voluntary stay.
It does leave a bit of a question mark hanging over season five. Between Whitney exiting and Taylor sitting this one out, two of the show’s biggest story drivers are stepping back. That said, if there’s one thing this group has proven, it’s that they’re never exactly short on drama and thank God for that!
