Whitney Houston hologram tour due to start seven years after her death - some fans are not happy

Tickets go on sale tomorrow for a Whitney Houston hologram tour in partnership with the late singer's estate - and some fans are not happy.

An Evening With Whitney by BASE Hologram, aimed at celebrating Whitney’s life and legacy, comes to the Manchester Apollo on February 28, with tickets starting at £51.30 (including booking fee).

The holographic experience will reunite audiences with the Queen of Pop using state of the art technology and digitally-remastered arrangements of her classic hits backed by a live band, singers and dancers.

But the idea has been met with criticism on social media.

"Anyone else find the idea of a Whitney Houston hologram tour vulgar and gross?," tweeted one fan.

"For one, it’s just creepy. Two... they need to let her rest," said another.

"I agree. Let her rest. There are other ways to keep her legacy alive," someone else said.

Other fans have supported the idea.

One said: "It’s an interesting deconstruction of the live music experience.

"The audience still experience the music they know through a massive sound system, hear musicians play live and share that experience with like-minded strangers.

"More interesting uses of holograms are sure to follow."

Another said: "Absolutely if it’s done correctly, no different than a laser show."

Whitney, whose hits include How Will I Know, Saving All My Love For You and Where Do Broken Hearts Go, died in 2012 at the age of 48.

Pat Houston, Whitney’s sister-in-law, former manager and president and CEO of her estate, has said about the tour, which kicks off its UK dates in Liverpool: "A hologram show is all about the imagination and creating a 'wow factor' that extends to an incredible experience to enjoy for years to come.

"Whitney is not with us but her music will live with us forever. We know we made the right decision partnering with BASE because they understand how important it is to produce a phenomenal hologram.

"They also know that engaging her fans with an authentic Whitney experience would resonate worldwide because of the iconic status that she created over three decades. Her fans deserve nothing less because she gave nothing less than her best.”
