Whitmer again tests negative for COVID-19 but will continue to work remotely

LANSING, Mich. — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has again tested negative for the coronavirus after her husband tested positive, but will continue a remote schedule for the time being, a spokesman said Wednesday.

Whitmer took a PCR (polymerase chain reaction) test Tuesday after her husband, retired dentist Marc Mallory, ex negative, spokesman Bobby Leddy said.

Earlier, a rapid test the governor took Tuesday also came back negative, Leddy said. She continued to isolate at the governor's residence in Lansing while awaiting confirmation of that test, he said Tuesday.

The PCR test, which typically uses a nasal swab, is considered highly accurate for detecting an active coronavirus infection.

"The governor will maintain a virtual and remote schedule at this point," Leddy said. "She tests twice a week and will continue with that testing schedule."

Mallory is recovering at home, in a different part of the residence from where the governor is, he said.

Both Whitmer and her husband are vaccinated and boosted, Leddy said.
