Whitley Bay ’s independent cinema is offering movie-goers the chance to see hit films for less from Friday.
Cinemas across the region are taking part in National Cinema Day on Saturday 3 September, with tickets costing £3 at most sites on the day. But the Jam Jar Cinema is taking things a step further, offering tickets for just £5 from Friday 2 September until Thursday 8 September in what they have dubbed North Tyneside Cinema Week.
More than 1,500 discounted tickets are up for grabs throughout the week, where audiences will be able to catch new releases as well as getting another chance to see some of the biggest hits of the summer. Showings include Elvis, Top Gun: Maverick, Bullet Train and Where The Crawdads Sing, as well as brand new films Beast and It Snows In Benidorm.

Family-friendly options are also on offer during the discount week including Minions: The Rise of Gru and DC League of Super-Pets, perfect for a day out at the cinema with the kids . Jam Jar founder Dan Ellis promised that there’s “something for everyone” throughout the week.
“North Tyneside Cinema Week comes at a time when kids are heading back to school and we're all a bit spent up after the holidays,” Dan said. “Here at Jam Jar Cinema we know that people have a bit less money in their pocket, so it's a great way to ensure local people can see a great range of films at a low cost.
“A trip to the pictures is an escape, a joy and a delight,” he added. “But when times are hard it's also a bit of a luxury, so this is a great opportunity to visit your local cinema - without breaking the bank.”
Set up in 2013, Jam Jar Cinema now has three screens in its cosy and welcoming space in the heart of Whitley Bay, with the biggest seating 47 and the smallest seating 29. Showing everything from Hollywood blockbusters to the best of Britain’s independent film scene and movies from around the world, films for a fiver is part of the cinema’s commitment to making films accessible for everyone.
