Whitley Bay High School pupil tests positive for coronavirus

Parents have been warned that another Whitley Bay High School pupil has caught Covid-19.

A text message was sent to parents on Tuesday, informing them that a Year 13 pupil was infected.

It comes just a day after it emerged a Year 11 student was diagnosed with the virus.

"All close contacts have been informed and will be self-isolating for 14 days as advised by North Tyneside Public Health Team," states the message from headteacher Steve Wilson.

"With the exception of those students self-isolating all other students should attend school as normal."

Parents are expected to receive a letter regarding the case on Wednesday.

ChronicleLive has been unable to reach management at the 1,600 pupil school, in Deneholm, for further comment.

It is just the latest in a rapidly growing number of coronavirus cases linked to schools across Tyneside.

Many schools are either fully or partially closed due to cases, with some whole year groups self-isolating.

One school, Gosforth Academy, has warned parents that 'more cases are likely' after a student there tested positive.
