Whitley Bay Carnival is getting much bigger for 2019.
Organisers were keen to expand the town's late May Bank Holiday Party, following the success of the 2018 Carnival .
This year, the event will run over three days on Saturday, May 24; Sunday, May 25 and Sunday May 26.
Following last year's Carnival, Crab and Waltzer boss Lee Taylor was keen to see the event grow and run over the entire late May Bank Holiday weekend. Fellow backers the Whitley Whaler, The Venetian, DiMeo’s Ices, Pantrini’s have doubled their support, while housing provider Bernicia has provided further sponsorship.
Last year, a colourful parade waltzed its way through the town, as crowds lined the streets, with entertainment around Spanish City Plaza until the early evening.
Carnival clubs are running now in Whitley Bay area schools and centres and are open to all with the big promenade pieces already taking shape.
Michael Farr, Bernicia Executive Director of Assets and Growth, said: "The Whitley Bay Carnival has quickly established itself as a major North East event delivering a huge financial boost to the local economy and showcasing the town.
"As a business committed to the North East with many homes and tenants across North Tyneside, we are delighted to be able to support such a fantastic event enjoyed by many thousands of people."
Last year, outdoor arts events and festivals brought an estimated £450,000 to Whitley Bay. Almost 2,000 played a part in making last year's carnival happen, from volunteer marshals to costumed paraders.
