Whitley Bay bottle shop Hazy Daze has applied to North Tyneside Council to allow customers to try their alcohol within the premises.
The shop could potentially serve alcohol 12pm to 7pm Monday to Thursday. Drinks could also be served from 12pm to 10pm Friday and Saturday and 12pm to 6pm on Sunday.
The owners, Sam and Martha Proud, have also asked for permission to play recorded music Monday to Thursday 11am to 7pm and Friday and Saturday 11am to 10pm. The hours applied for Sunday are 11am to 6pm.
The application reads: "Hazy Daze is currently a small bottle shop holding an off licence in Whitley Bay. We would like to expand on this to be able to offer a small tasting area within the shop whilst still operating as an off licence."
The bottle shop, located in Whitley Bay's Spanish City, sells a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and clothes. It first opened in May 2021.
In a previous interview, Mr Proud said he had left his job in marketing and sales after 13 years to start the new venture.
The council has issued a public notice to inform residents about the application. Residents can make written representations to the local authority.
Representations can be sent to the licensing section, the Killingworth site, Harvey Combe, Killingworth, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE12 6QQ or by email to liquor.licensing@northtyneside.gov.uk. Written views need to be sent to the Council no later than November 3 2022.
The iconic Spanish City Dome underwent extensive restoration after years of dilapidation after North Tyneside Council successfully bid for £3.47m from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The council commissioned construction firm Robertson and architects ADP to bring the Dome back to her former glory.
Works began in August 2016 and the Dome was finally reopened to the public in July 2018.
