Whitley Bay: Body of man wearing only socks found on beach

The body of a man has been found on Whitley Bay beach in Tyneside.

A dog walker made the discovery at 8.20 on Saturday morning on the beach at Brown’s Bay, northeast of Newcastle.

The body was reportedly naked except for a pair of socks.

The man has not yet been formally identified, and Northumbria police are treating the death as “unexplained”.

It is not known whether the man died on the beach, or was washed onto the land by the sea. Officers are carrying out enquiries into the incident.

Police said anyone who may have information should contact officers on 101 quoting reference number 247 30/12/17.
