Whitletts Victoria ready to break away from Junior football to join SFL pyramid system

Whitletts Victoria have this afternoon joined Kilwinning Rangers in admitting they are ready to break away from Junior football to join the SFL pyramid system.

The move comes follows a released this morning by the Scottish Lowland Football League (SLFL) and East of Scotland Football League (EoSFL) that could pave the way for a West of Scotland League.

Whitletts, who ply their trade in the second tier Championship, released the following statement on their website.

"Two years ago, member clubs of the Scottish Junior Football Association (SJFA) overwhelmingly supported the concept of junior clubs joining the SFA’s pyramid system for Scottish football.

"Following the apparent breakdown of negotiations at the SFA’s Pyramid Working Group last week, the committee of Whitletts Victoria have re-affirmed our desire for the Club to participate in the pyramid system.

"Our preference remains that the existing SJFA West Region, with its’ league structure forming the void in the West of Scotland, would move en masse into the pyramid structure but this is now looking increasingly unlikely.

"Therefore the Club will pursue all avenues available to it to join the SFA pyramid structure with a view to applying for our National Club License once we are in a position to move into our proposed new home ground.

"Whitletts Victoria has been a member of the SJFA since our formation in 1944 and it is a history of which we are proud. We hope that the current impasse can be overcome and that we can remain a junior club within the pyramid but whether that happens or not, the future of the Club lies within the pyramid structure."
