Whitletts set up Auchinleck Talbot clash with impressive win over Troon

Whitletts Victoria sailed through to the Sectional Cup quarter-final after a 5-1 against South Ayrshire rivals Troon.

Thomas Donovan bagged four before Sean Ewart added a fifth, and Evan Maley scored the only goal for Jonny Baillie's side.

The win means the Ayr side will take on Auchinleck Talbot in two weeks as they beat Kello 3-0.

It took Whitletts just five minutes to take the lead as Thomas Donovan saw his header get the better of Troon goalkeeper Scott Johnstone.

Troon equalised in the 22nd minute when Evan Maley smashed home from close range after the Whitletts defence cleared an original effort off the line.

Vics regained their lead in the 34th minute when Donovan doubled his money with a neat finish after some impressive build-up play.

A dull second-half, in both a football and weather sense, was brightened up in the 73rd minute when Whitletts were awarded a penalty.

The game then matched the weather as it started raining goals.

Donovan converted the spot-kick with the help of the crossbar to complete his hat-trick.

It was then four for Donovan and Vics five minutes later when he slotted home another tidy finish.

And the rout was completed in the 86th minute when Sean Ewart smashed home an effort from outside the area.
