Whitla Street overturned lorry righted by crane after crash

With as delicate a touch as you can apply with such heavy machinery a large crane is used to right an overturned lorry.

The vehicle caused some traffic disruption earlier on Thursday after it ended up on its side at at Whitla Street, near the junction with Garmoyle Street, in North Belfast

The tractor-trailer was slowly winched upright as two workers carefully adjusted what looked like two huge bean-bags so they would cushion the landing. The 'bags' appeared to deflate as the lorry came upright, bringing it to rest on the road.

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service said it received a call about the incident, in Belfast’s docks area, at around 2.33pm. Two rapid response paramedics were sent to the scene along with an emergency crew.

The driver of the vehicle was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital with what are understood to be non-life threatening injuries.
