Whitewell Road 'attack' leaves man needing hospital treatment

A man has been injured after reportedly being attacked by a gang, police say.

The PSNI says detectives are appealing for information “following a report of an aggravated burglary at residential premises in the Whitewell Road area of Newtownabbey last night (Tuesday 26th May)”.

Detective Sergeant Will Arnott said: “Shortly after 8:40pm, it was reported that four unknown males forced entry into a flat in the area.

"A 35-year-old man occupant inside the property was assaulted by the males, who were believed to have been armed with a wooden bat. The man was also kicked and punched on the ground during the incident. The man was taken to hospital for his injuries, which were not believed to be life-threatening.

“Enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area at the time of the incident, to contact detectives on 101 quoting reference number 1965 26/05/20.

"Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.”
