CHICAGO _ John Hicks belted a pinch-hit, three-run home run with one out in the ninth inning Saturday, rallying the Tigers to a 4-3 victory against the White Sox in the second game of a doubleheader in front of 25,552 at Guaranteed Rate Field.
The Sox won the opener 7-1.
Hicks hit a 1-2 cutter to left field for the homer off Alex Colome to give the Tigers a 4-2 lead. Colome suffered just his third blown save of the season. Yoan Moncada hit a pinch-hit solo home run in the ninth for the Sox.
Reynaldo Lopez finished an inconsistent season on a positive note in Game 1, allowing one run on five hits in eight-plus innings.
Lopez struck out nine and walked one to win for the first time since he tossed a one-hitter against the Indians on Sept. 5. He exited Saturday's game after allowing a single to Victor Reyes leading off the ninth. He tipped his hat to the crowd as he walked off the field.
"To finish the season with a good outing is something good, even though this season was kind of rough," Lopez said through an interpreter. "It's a good feeling when you are able to finish the season with a good outing. It's important because you can carry this good outing or this good feeling to the offseason and work on that for next season."
Lopez (10-15) had lost his previous three starts. He finished 2019 with a 5.38 ERA.
"(Saturday) was a great finish and beginning at the same time going into the offseason and getting ready for the upcoming year," Sox manager Rick Renteria said. "It was nice to see him come back and do what he did. We're very optimistic as to what he is for us moving forward."
Danny Mendick, who turned 26 Saturday, hit a two-run homer in the sixth and Eloy Jimenez hit a solo homer one inning later.
"I have my family here right now, so it's a cool moment to share," Mendick said.
Zack Collins drove two runs for the Sox in Game 2 with a single in the second inning. Sox starter Ivan Nova allowed one run on three hits with four strikeouts and two walks in five-plus innings in the no decision.
Sox shortstop Tim Anderson went 0-for-2 with two walks in Game 2 after sitting out Game 1. Anderson leads the American League with a .337 average heading into the final day of the season. The Yankees' DJ LeMahieu entered Saturday second at .331.
