The White Sox started their sell-off Thursday, trading closer Joakim Soria and cash considerations to the Brewers for two minor-league pitchers.
The Sox received left-hander Kodi Medeiros, 22, and right-hander Wilber Perez, 20.
Medeiros, a first-round pick in 2014, was rated the No. 6 prospect in the Brewers organization by Baseball America. He has a 3.14 ERA this season with Double-A Biloxi.
Soria was expected to be dealt to a contender ahead of the July 31 trade deadline, and was one of their more valuable chips with an 0.74 ERA since May 21 and 12 saves in his last 13 chances. None of the 12 inherited runners has scored against him this year.
Soria is due around $3 million the rest of the year and has a $1 million buyout on a $10 million mutual option in 2019. The Sox were willing to pay part of the salary in order to get a better return on players.
The Brewers already have one of the stronger bullpens in the National League, ranking third with a 3.31 ERA, but adding Soria gives them more depth for the stretch run.
