Feb. 28--White Sox prospect Carson Fulmer didn't flinch when teammate Mat Latos jumped in to a media interview at Camelback Ranch on Sunday morning and pretended to record it on his phone.
The Sox's 2015 first-round draft pick already is showing good composure in the clubhouse, but he will be tested on the mound next.
Fulmer, a 22-year-old right-hander, is penciled in this week to start Monday's first intrasquad game at Camelback Ranch and to make a start in a Cactus League game Saturday against the Royals, according to a schedule posted by the Sox.
"That's pretty cool," Fulmer said of potentially starting in his first Cactus League appearance. "I really don't know what to expect. I have to keep the game simple and go out there and try to give us the best chance to win."
Fulmer didn't pitch above Class A in his first few months as a professional pitcher last year, and he is less than two weeks into his first big-league spring training. He said he has been trying to pick the brains of the veteran pitchers and is learning about the mental side of the game.
"You learn a lot," Fulmer said. "The pace of the game, I'm still trying to learn and figure out ways to make myself go deeper in games and also stay healthy. I have a lot of people around here to learn from."
Tyler Danish, the club's sixth-ranked prospect, according to Baseball America, is slated to start opposite Fulmer on Monday. Carlos Rodon and Brandon Brennan are scheduled for Tuesday's intrasquad game.
Sox left-hander John Danks is slated to pitch in the Cactus League opener Thursday against the Dodgers, and right-hander Jacob Turner pitches Friday against the Indians.
Chris Sale, Jose Quintana and Latos are all scheduled for live batting practice, side sessions or B games this week.
