Sept. 08--The White Sox will begin their 2016 season with a four-game series against the Athletics in Oakland, starting with the season opener on April 4, according to the schedule released Tuesday by Major League Baseball. It will mark the first time the Sox have opened in Oakland since 1975.

The Sox will return to U.S. Cellular Field for the home opener April 8 against the Indians and will play a three-game series at home before hitting the road again to Minnesota and Tampa Bay.

The Sox and Cubs will meet for back-to-back, two-game series in July in the 2016 City Series. The Sox will host the Cubs on July 25-26, and the Cubs will host the Sox July 27-28 at Wrigley Field. After the City Series was given two weekend series this season, it returns to a midweek schedule, from Monday-Thursday.

The Sox will face the National League East in interleague play, starting with a trip to play the Mets at Citi Field May 30-June 1. The Sox also will travel to play the Marlins Aug. 12-14, their first time playing at Marlins Park since it opened in 2012. Other interleague contests on the road include the Phillies on Sept. 20-21 at Citizens Bank Park.

The Sox will host the Nationals June 7-9, the Braves July 8-10 and the Phillies Aug. 23-24.

They will finish the season with a seven-game homestand, hosting the Rays and Twins, with the season finale coming Oct. 2.
