The White Sox will host the Minnesota Twins at Guaranteed Rate Field to open the season on July 24, a source confirmed Monday, hours before Major League Baseball announces its full schedule for the 60-game season at 5 p.m.
NBC Sports Chicago first reported the matchup between the defending AL Central champion Twins and the Sox, who are looking to make the postseason for the first time since 2008.
Fans are not expected to be allowed to attend because of public health guidelines and restrictions.
According to multiple reports, the Cubs are hosting the Brewers for their first game at Wrigley Field. The Athletic was the first to report the matchup.
Teams are playing only opponents from their division and teams from the same geographical division in the other league, with 40 divisional games and 20 interleague games.
The expected MLB openers on July 23 are the Yankees vs. the Nationals and Dodgers vs. the Giants. The Cubs’ season opener on July 24 will be broadcast on ESPN, the network’s Jesse Rogers reported.
The schedule will be unveiled on MLB Network at 5 p.m. Chicago time in a one-hour special hosted by Matt Vasgersian, Harold Reynolds and Tom Verducci.
