The White Sox added outfield depth with the acquisition of veteran Jarrod Dyson from the Pirates, a source confirmed Friday.
Dyson, 36, has struggled at the plate this season but he has stolen 234 bases at a 85 percent success rate during his career and will give manager Rick Renteria a more than capable late inning pinch running or defensive replacement when needed.
The Sox are parting with international bonus pool space to complete the deal, according to reports.
Dyson signed a one-year, $2 million deal with the Pirates last offseason. A career .245/.317/.334 hitter, Dyson is batting .157/.218/.157 this season.
The Sox (19-12), winners in nine of their last 10 games, are tied with the Indians for second place in AL Central, one half game behind the Twins.
ESPN’s Jeff Passan was first to report the trade, which hadn’t been announced by either team Friday morning.
