Dodgers 8, Sox 0 (7)
Blanked
With the exception of Yasmani Grandal, who is still out with a sore knee, the White Sox (1-5-3) threw their best lineup at the Dodgers and managed three hits, a double by designated hitter Andrew Vaughn in the fifth inning and Yoan Moncada’s infield single and Eloy Jimenez’ single to right with two outs in the seventh and last frame. The Sox were dominant against left-handers last season, but Julio Urias (three perfect innings) and David Price (one) were perfect at the outset.
Keystone cops
Center fielder Luis Robert collided with left fielder Jimenez on a routine fly that was easily in Jimenez’ range but caught by Robert, dropping Jimenez to the turf for several seconds. The always jovial Jimenez played possum and came up smiling but unnecessary contact involving two prized talents left no one grinning in the Sox dugout. Robert was very aggressive as a rookie, which is his duty as the center fielder and what the coaching staff wants to see, but allowing Jimenez to catch the routine flay balls probably wouldn’t hurt. Spring training would be a good time to get it ironed before another such mix-up results in an injury.
Mixed bag
Shortstop Tim Anderson made a leaping, well-timed catch of a soft liner to end a rocky inning for Zack Burdi — who walked three and allowed Corey Seager’s three-run homer. Anderson also made a high off-balance throw trying to make a great play for his second error of the spring.
On deck
Padres at Sox, Tuesday, 2:05 p.m., MLB.com, Blake Snell vs. Lance Lynn. Right-hander Michael Kopech makes his first start in a Sox uniform since the end of the 2018 season before his Tommy John surgery.
