Sunday's recap: White Sox 3, Royals 2

May 22--After scoring two runs in the first two games of the series, both losses, the White Sox salvaged three Sunday with a 3-2 victory against the Royals (22-21) in front of 34,526 at U.S. Cellular Field. Melky Cabrera's second hit, a two-run, two-out single in the fifth, gave the Sox a two-run lead.

The Sox (26-18) had lost six of seven and eight of 10.

At the plate

After starting the series 0-for-8, Todd Frazier had two hits, including a home run, and reached via walk.

On the mound

Carlos Rodon allowed two runs, eight hits a pair of walks and struck out four in 6 2/3 innings for the Sox.

In the field

Adam Eaton's sliding catch of Alcides Escobar's fly ball down the right-field line on the first pitch of the game set the tone. Jerry Sands also leaped to catch Eric Hosmer's screaming liner in the seventh.

Making moves

The White Sox reinstated catcher Kevan Smith from the disabled list and optioned him to Triple-A Charlotte before the game.
